NCP’s figure undermines attempts to keep Sudan’s Bashir in power

Prominent figure at ruling National Congress Party NCP on Monday mocked attempts to amend the country’s constitution to let President Bashir run for another term in upcoming presidential elections 2020.
“Proposed amendments violate recommendations of the national dialogue”, said Amin Hassan Omer in press briefing
He pointed that National Legislature doesn’t have the right to initiate any constitutional amendments but rather it could receive the same from Presidency.
“Stance of Presidency on this matter is of a great significance as article 91 in constitution gives presidency the right to make such amendments”, he further noted.
The official also lambasted calls by opposition to topple the regime saying it’s illegitimate and would have catastrophic impacts on the country.
