The United States congratulates Nigeria for the good conduct of the legislative, senatorial and presidential elections of 23 February.
The government’s point of view was expressed through a statement released Friday by US Secretary of State. “The United States congratulates the Nigerian people for the success of their presidential election. We congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari for his reelection, “said Mike Pompeo.
“We congratulate all Nigerians who peacefully participated in the elections and condemn those who have abused Nigerians and the electoral process. We rely on the reports of national and international observation missions claiming the general credibility of the election, despite localized violence and irregularities, “he said.
Pompeo also praised the unfortunate candidates for their maturity and peaceful attitude. “We also congratulate all the other candidates for their peaceful participation in the electoral process”.
According to the electoral commission (INEC), in the presidential election on February 23, Muhammadu Buhari, 76, won 55.60% of the vote against 41.22% for his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar.
